Fun Fact: I have traveled to South Africa six times and China once.
I grew up on a farm in NW Iowa and was raised in a small farming community. I had wonderful parents and a church community that taught me about Jesus and the truth of who he was and who I am. In early elementary my Sunday school teacher took me out of the classroom and showed me a picture of Jesus knocking at a door. She read Revelations 3:20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in , and we will share a meal together as friends.” She explained that Jesus was knocking at the door of my heart and wanted me to have a relationship with me. She explained that I was a sinner and Jesus came and died for my sins. I remember praying and confessing my sins and asking Jesus to save me and have a relationship with me. Life has not been perfect since then but God has been so faithful to continue to draw me to himself whenever I begin to stray.
I went to Iowa State and received my Bachelors in Human Services. Then after working for a few years I went back and got my Masters in School Counseling. During a season of difficulty Deb Hesiterkamp provided Biblical Counseling to me. It opened my eyes to the truth that the Bible is sufficient for everyday life and has answers for all our needs. So, I went through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors Training and became certified. This process was so helpful in growing my knowledge of counseling and God’s Word. I am excited to begin counseling at Lakeside!
