Lakeside is joining up with several other area churches to collect food to be donated to the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s Food Pantry. Each church has a goal of collecting at least 1000 cans of food. Please bring your donations to church on Sunday, or drop them off in the office during the week.
Here are some suggestions:
Canned red beans, canned black beans, canned fruit, canned veggies, canned meats (chili, stew, etc.), canned soup, tuna, macaroni & cheese, rice, Hamburger Helper, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, peanut butter, saltines, macaroni, spaghetti, canned spaghetti sauce, cereal (hot or cold), instant potatoes.
NO glass, please. Be sure to check expiration dates.
On April 26 join us at the We Can Rally at Capital Square in downtown Des Moines on Sunday from 1 – 5pm.
We’ll gather with people from 28 other churches, as well as people from the homeless community and food pantry customers, when we bring our 1000+ cans of food together with those collected by other churches. There will be music and fun along with learning about hunger through speakers and displays. At the end of the afternoon, we’ll load the 29,000 cans of food onto a semi-truck and other vehicles for delivery to local food pantries and homeless ministries.
Please join in saying WE CAN defeat hunger!
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
Matthew 23.35

How close are we to reaching our goal of 1000 cans?
